Empty Promises – written with Chico Freeman and used in the film ‘All the way to the Top’ aka ‘Nowhere to go but Up’. Vanesse Thomas (daughter of Rufus) sings the title song of this quirky movie starring Audrey Tautou.
I met Chico on the Rockit Network - a forward thinking piece of software that linked musicians together - this was in the late 90s - early 2000s - we could write using midi or audio - the codec they were developing allowed audio to appear on your desktop in Logic (Later bought by Apple). It was unbelievable - I met some of the most forward thinking music makers on that platform including Chico. And so began our lifelong friendship as long distance music collaborators. This was one of the songs we wrote for the film. Chico recorded and produced it in New York.
