Tales of an Eclipse
In November 1994 I went to South America with Cyndi Lauper to help promote her ’12 deadly Cyns and then some’ CD - playing keys in her fantastic band and being lucky enough to co-write “Come on Home” as the 13th track on the album.
Landing in Paraguay I became aware of beautiful posters dotted around the city. To me they looked, and still look, like sunflowers. My school girl Spanish made me realise there was something going on - a total eclipse of the sun no less! Oh my! And so on the morning of November 3rd I watched in my hotel room as CNN showed the eclipse crossing from Chile to - yes it’s time - let’s go up to the roof! What an experience to see the planets and the birds flying as full darkness enveloped the city of Asuncion.
Years later I hung a poster of the event on a door in my studio, English Valley Music, in Tennessee and often looked over and remembered that auspicious day.
Tonight I found this pic of the studio - you might notice amidst the Ataris and very old Macs a set of drums and a poster on the door . . . Remembering from one total eclipse to another ... Shadows only hide the light for a small amount of time.
