In 2017, Clare Perkins, the mayor of Woodbridge, asked me to help produce the Beowulf Festival. I was impressed that rather than throwing an end of year Mayoral Ball she wanted to give a gift to the town and so our story began ....
Clare wrote, "Imagine - Just imagine! A COMMUNITY FESTIVAL celebrating The Spirit of Beowulf in Woodbridge Suffolk May 3-7 2018 (Early Spring Bank Holiday) Come and be part of five days of magic, music and mystery on the banks of the beautiful River Deben. Dragons, history, music, lights, Anglo Saxon market, children’s activities, installations, food, re-enactments, story telling, poetry etc. This festival is my gift to the town - for Woodbridge, by Woodbridge, to Woodbridge!
I have always loved legends and Beowulf is an intriguing and amazing story which it appears may have been written near the town of which I am Mayor. The people of Woodbridge have historically worked with the River Deben and so this festival takes place on the banks of our beautiful river."
And what a fantastic few days it was We projected onto the TideMill (the first to do that) with music especially composed for the event. It was the highlight of the 5 day event! Thanks to David Turner for the wonderful mandalas, Jenny Edwards and Zimp for the SL animated Dragon, Susie Hammond and Claudia Myatt for the colourful artwork and Tom Taylor for putting the projections all together and everyone else who supported this amazing festival. Music for the Projections was performed on the de-commissioned Scottish Trawler 'Marie' by myself (Jan Pulsford) and Merlyn Bruce. Big thank you to Team Audio for the stellar sound.
