Last weekend, July 2 2023, marked the end of an era - Tony Gerber - who those in Second Life (and various other virtual worlds) know as Cypress Rosewood - decided to hang up his pixels after 18 years.
Everything has its time and place - I fully understand and share his reasons for teleporting out. A couple of years ago Tony built the ambient 101 SIM and that made me stay - it seemed full of possibilities and I was so pleased we could incorporate the ambient metaverse into the RL Woodbridge Ambient Music Festival. However the platform was so reliant on hi-speed internet and fast computers that it left many people in the audience scratching their heads as we tried and tried to get connected to listen to the amazing music being performed at the virtual festival and watch the amazing particle shows.
I thank and applaud Tony for his enthusiasm and tenacity.
For me SL has not kept up with the times and its viewer is just too clunky to invite new people into what was, 18 years ago, a very cutting edge, joyous and exciting place to be.
I'm going to put JaNa KYoMooN on ice for a while whilst I produce this years RL Ambient Music Festival and explore other platforms to continue the online shows. RadioMothership.com will continue playing ambient music to relax and unwind - I'm not intending on pulling the plug on RL anytime soon. :)
